No tourist visas have been issued in 2024

Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez clarified this Monday that in 2024 the Government Dominican no tourist visa has been issued to citizens haitians. The data was also confirmed by Mirex to Free Diary when responding to a request processed through the office of access to public information.

Through his X account, the chancellor said yesterday that the consulates Dominicans have only granted 102 visas for humanitarian trade reasons since last year.

The official made the clarification after the former president Leonel Fernandez published in his weekly column in the Listín Diario that the “Mirex has issued in this month of September some 39 thousand visas from tourism to haitians and more than 400 thousand in 2024 through our consulates in Haiti”, referring to information provided by former general José Miguel Soto Jiménez.

“As soon as he returns to the country, we will summon the media to the ministry of Relations Foreign Affairs so that they can verify the veracity that our consulates in Haiti they have only issued 102 visas for reasons of humanitarian trade since September 2023,” Álvarez said on Monday, when he was in Mexico accompanying President Luis Abinader at the inauguration of Claudia Sheinbaum as the new president.
