The National Water Commission (Conagua) reported the formation of tropical storm Carlotta in the Pacific Ocean 480 km southwest of Playa Pérula, Jalisco, and 500 km southwest of Manzanillo, Colima, and moving west-northwest.
Its circulation will cause very heavy rains, sometimes intense, accompanied by electrical discharges, gusts of wind and possible hail in western Mexico. It will also generate high waves and the probability of waterspouts on the coasts of Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán.
This tropical storm formed south of the Baja California Sur coast and will move west-northwest, moving away from the Mexican coast. Therefore, Carlotta is not expected to make landfall in Mexico; however, it is expected to generate rain in that part of the country.
Its cloud bands will cause very strong to intense rains and winds with strong gusts in Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán, in addition to high waves and possible formation of waterspouts on the coasts of these states.
There will be intense rainfall in Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán, and very heavy rainfall (50 to 75 mm) in Nayarit. The rains could be accompanied by electrical discharges and hail, as well as causing an increase in the levels of rivers and streams, landslides, puddles and flooding in low-lying areas of the indicated states.
Winds with gusts of 40 to 60 km/h are expected, waves of 1 to 2 meters high and the possible formation of waterspouts on the coasts of Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán. Therefore, the general population is advised to take extreme precautions in the areas of the aforementioned states due to rain, wind and waves, including maritime navigation, and to heed the recommendations issued by the authorities of the National Civil Protection System in each entity.
