The federal government is analyzing the authorization of a Hotel, housing and commercial project in Mahahual, which will cover at least 30 hectares and through which numerous buildings and commercial areas are intended to be built.
The project is called Lahun Tiku, and is promoted through the Actinver bank, a company specialized in investment management, which has presented the projects to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, which is analyzing its approval and has begun consultation of the project, whose investment is estimated at more than 216 million pesos (12.7 million dollars)
“The project site corresponds to the northern Hotel lots from 5 to 15 of the Master Plan of the project called “Lahun Tiku” in an area of 79 thousand 548.6 m2 intended for different uses: residential-commercial, Hotel, exterior works and equipment, divided in two areas: one called “Pueblo” with 109 lots for mixed use (exterior works, equipment, homes, rooms and ground floor commerce); and a Hotel Zone with 32 lots for hotels and equipment works, the document states.
The property had previously been occupied by a Hotel project, which was destroyed by the hurricanes that have impacted the region and its structures had to be demolished, so it is presumed by the developers that the environmental impact generated will be lower, and seeks to detonate tourism, considering the thousands of cruise passengers who arrive daily in the area.
It should be noted that Mahahual is a port and town in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco facing the Caribbean Sea. In recent years it has developed as an important growing tourist centre. This small fishing village comes to life when the cruise ships arrive at its port. (Cozumel and Mahahual account for more than half of cruises in Mexico).
