The Navy of Dominican Republic The US Department of Defense reported on Sunday that it had deployed a large maritime and land operation in the vicinity of Montecristi and Manzanillo, as part of the reinforced security measures on the country’s northern border.
During the operation, naval units intercepted a boat handcrafted approximately four meters long (13 feet), in which three citizens were traveling Haitians involved in activities of illegal fishing.
In parallel, personnel from the Navy arrested five nationals Haitians that they were trying to enter the Dominican territory in a way irregular by the Estero Balsa shipyard, in the municipality of Manzanillo, according to a press release.
The detainees were transferred to the Parolà post, while the authorities coordinated the delivery of all the Haitian citizens to the General Directorate of Migration, for the corresponding procedures.
“With this action, the Navy Dominican continues the surveillance of maritime and land areas, contributing to the protection of sovereignty and national security“, he said in a press release.
