The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (POTfor its acronym in English) ventures into the world of graphic novels to share with the public “First Woman: The Promise of the POT for Humanity,” a story about adventure, courage, and space Travel based on technologies that exist in real life.
This graphic novel of 40 pages was launched in 2020 as part of the initiative Artemishe program of the POT that plans to take humans to the Moon again, including the first woman already the first person of color.
It is here that we learn the history of the commander Callie Rodríguez, a heroic astronaut which has the objective of being the first woman to reach the Moon.
The comic shows Callie’s journey from her childhood, her training as astronautuntil his lunar mission, highlighting the importance of teamwork and the perseverance.
During her adventures Callie has the help of RT, a faithful robotic companion created with artificial intelligenceand Meshaya Billy, a astronaut with exceptional skills as a pilot.
“´The First Woman´ reveals real-life technologies that POT is developing to take us further than we have gone before and to improve life here on Earth. As an Air Force pilot and commander of the space shuttle, I can relate to the challenges Callie must face,” explains Pamela MelroyDeputy Administrator of POT.
The generation Artemis
This work was created with the aim of inspiring new generationsespecially young women and girls, to get them interested in the academic disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM by its acronym in English).

“First woman: the promise of POT for humanity” consists of three chapters that are available on the website of the POT. This novel is also accompanied by interactive content that allows readers to explore additional elements through an app. augmented reality.
