Sunrise Airways was the first airline to return to Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince, after two and a half months of closure.
“We are pleased to inform you that, following recent events and in accordance with the directives of the airport authorities, our flights to/from Port-au-Prince are scheduled to resume on Monday, May 20, 2024. Please note that all our flights, domestic and international, now take off and land at the Toussaint Louverture international airport,” specifies a message sent by the airline to its passengers.
Prior to this announcement, two of the company’s planes had landed at Port-au-Prince airport on May 11. It was an aircraft repositioning flight. Both planes also carried maintenance and service equipment from the company’s fleet.
Sunrise Airways was the first airline to announce the cessation of these operations on February 29, at the start of coordinated gang attacks.
“Following the exchanges of gunfire that took place today near the Rita crossing, which endangered users of the Guy Malary terminal and caused damage to certain aircraft, the company Sunrise Airways has decided to suspend all its flights until further notice, to not endanger travelers. , ground equipment, crews or airplanes,” the Sunrise company stated in a press release at that time.
