A noble cause unites Spanish artists classical music Serena Saenz and Pablo Sainz-VillegasThe soprano and the guitarist will delight the Dominicans with their talent in the recital for fundraising “Spanish Romance“, which organizes the Symphony Foundation and the Volunteering of the Cardio Neuro Ophthalmological and Transplant Center (Cecanot).
The appointment is this Tuesday, September 10 at 8:30 p.m. in the Carlos Piantini Room of the National theater Eduardo Brito.
After performing together in emblematic venues in classical music from around the world, the artists will bring to the Dominican Republic a proposal adapted to the Spanish-speaking public.
“Spanish Romance It is a song to Spanish songs, for the most part, and to that rich tradition that comes from accompanying the guitar “by voice,” explains Pablo.
The main musical pieces of Vicente Martín y Soler, Federico Garcia LorcaWolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Francisco Tárrega, Vincenzo Bellini and Enrique Granados arranged for voice and guitar They are part of the program, designed to help each person excel in their area.
Their synergy
Serena It is distinguished by its musicality, good taste in ornamentation and bright high notes with a good arsenal of bel canto resources. Pablo He has been praised as the most virtuoso guitarist of his generation; an ambassador of Spanish culture in the world who became the first solo guitarist to play at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Achieving a perfect fusion between the lyrical voice and the musicality of the guitar It has never been a problem for them.
“I think that from the first day we sang together and met each other it has been very natural and very easy, and in the end, on the other hand, when two great musicians come together, I think it is something natural and easy to do music together,” says Pablo.
Choose a repertoire with which both sit comfortable It is one of the keys to the success of their joint performances.
“This combination of guitar and voice is not so common today in the world of classical music“When we choose the repertoire, we are very careful so that we can both feel comfortable and vibrate in each of our areas, because many of the pieces are not written for this combination,” adds Serena.
“A classical music concert is to be enjoyed through other senses, not so much the visual one. It is a journey of emotions”
There is young audience for the classical music?
Many may find it difficult to associate the classical music with the young audienceSerena and Pablo advocate changing this perception and designing contexts to foster engagement with the general public.
As part of his project “The legacy of music without borders”, Pablo has shared his music with more than 45,000 children and youths in Spain, Mexico and the United States. During the pandemic of COVID-19In 2020, he offered live concerts through social media and his videos had more than 300,000 views.
“For me it is a great commitment “The one that we musicians of our generation have to create bridges, to invite new audiences, and we have that responsibility and that opportunity to inspire youth, because music belongs to the people, it is for everyone,” he comments. guitarist.
For Pablo there are many prejudices and myths surrounding the classical music that needs to be torn down so that more youths become interested in this art form.
“On many occasions there is a lack of knowledge of youth and prejudices that think that the classical music It’s for older people or those who have to understand it, and it’s really far from reality,” he adds.
Initiatives such as those developed by the Symphony Foundation in the Dominican Republic to bring together youths good music and supporting them in their studies should be replicated around the world, the artists believe.
“It is to be congratulated that the Symphony Foundation take care to deliver the classical music “It’s a great way to reach audiences other than those that already exist. I think that when a programmer has a very defined purpose and mission, creating bridges to reach them, there is a huge difference, because it’s no longer music for music’s sake, but with a direction, a purpose and a message,” says Serena.
