SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Futsal National Team climbed seven positions in the World Ranking of the modality to be among the hundred best quintets on the planet of the 211 nations that belong to FIFA. The event occurred after the participation of the national team in the 2024 Concacaf Futsal Championship that took place from April 13 to 20 at the Alexis Argüello Sports Center located in Managua, capital of Nicaragua.
The national team rose to position 100 with a total of 768 points accumulated in the latest Futsal Ranking released this April. At the end of 2023, the tricolor was on step 107.
The Dominican Republic was on the verge of advancing to its first futsal World Cup after reaching the quarterfinals of the Concacaf World Cup where it was beaten 2-1 by Cuba.
Sedofútsal was the team with the best goal average in the competition with 6.0 scored per game and was also the team that obtained the biggest victory (11-1 vs Trinidad and Tobago).
David Rondón -the captain- finished second in the scoring department with six goals, one less than the top scorer -Marvin Sandoval of Guatemala-.
In the first phase, the Dominican team ranked second – for the first time in its history – after accumulating six points in group C, as a result of victories against Trinidad and Tobago (already mentioned) and the United States (7-6), in addition to falling against Guatemala (7-5).
José Pérez and Dimar Blanco (goalkeepers), Juan Rondón, Uriel Cepeda, Christian Gardelli, Ricardo Álvarez, David Rondón, Héctor Pérez, José Belliard, Marco Gómez, Guillermo López, Marselle Cestero, Javier Pepén and Granci Moscoso made up the team of players.
Fernando Ballester (technical director), Carlos Boccicardi (technical assistant), Marcela Munguía (doctor), Ana Zamora (physiotherapist) and Kelvyn Ovalle (prop) were part of the coaching staff and Duilio Gimondo was in charge of the operational management of Sedofutsal during this pre-world championship.
