With the brands Hyatt, Meliá, Grupo Punta Cana and Karisma, a mega tourism project Punta Bergantín of 9 hotels will be built in Puerto Plata, an initiative of the Dominican government with the aim of reviving the destination.
The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources approved the environmental license for this development. With this, the complex will be able to begin construction work in August, which will cover an area of 9.6 million square meters, but excludes the use of infrastructure construction in wetlands, mangroves, dunes, swamps, ravines, and any other area of environmental vulnerability, explained Andrés Marranzini, executive director of the Punta Bergantín tourism project, as reported by Arecoa.
Nine hotels will be built, including “apartment buildings, villas, mixed-use townhouses, and commercial use; an Innovation Center; film studios, administrative offices, a hospital area, a Golf Club, a Beach Club, and a Tennis Club, a club for the apartment area, a horse riding club, and a theme park,” the same media outlet said.
The project already has agreements with the Hyatt Ziva and Zilara brands for an 800-room Hotel, Meliá with the Puntacana Group for 400 rooms and Karisma, with a 300-room Hotel.
The initiative, the project states, “pays tribute to Puerto Plata as the country’s first tourist destination, and recognizes this region’s contribution as a leader and pioneer in placing the Dominican Republic as one of the first tourist centers in Latin America and the world.”
As reported by REPORTUR.mxIn June, the Dominican government, through the Ministry of Culture, plans to create the Rainieri Cultural Center in Punta Cana. The minister of the portfolio, Milagros Germán, has held meetings with the tourism businessman Frank Rainieri to finalize the sectorial authorization.
