The Puerta al Mar, a project that will link the municipal capital of Felipe Carrillo Puerto with the coast, is 47 percent complete, which corresponds to the paving of 22 kilometers, according to Governor Mara Lezama, who together with personnel from the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) and municipal authorities supervised the work last Monday.
“Today we are supervising the work that Sedena is doing, the long-awaited Gateway to the Sea; the objective is to connect the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto with the Mexican Caribbean. This is the response to an old demand of the Carrillo Puerto residents, a very heartfelt but also very fair demand,” said the state leader.
In turn, the Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo, Bernardo Cueto, shared details about the Puerta al Mar project, an initiative that seeks to benefit the inhabitants of the Felipe Carrillo Puerto municipality and the Mayan area, in addition to attracting visitors from other states and countries.
Cueto stressed that the Gateway to the Sea will not only offer cultural and historical wonders through tourist and artisan routes, but will also allow visitors to discover another side of the Mexican Caribbean through the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, one of the most impressive natural environments in the country.
“This project represents a great opportunity to open new spaces for tourist attraction; it is essential to establish plans for sustainable and responsible management of tourism,” said the official. He indicated that this initiative includes a tour of the United States, visiting New York and Washington DC, to publicize the Mayan area and generate alliances with the American tourism sector, the main source of tourists to Quintana Roo, as recorded by the Ministry of Tourism.
