Mara Lezama, governor of Quintana Roo, praised President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), thanking him for looking to the southeast with works such as the Mayan Train.

Lezama publicly stated that she thanks the president, “for the decision to look towards the southeast, I do so on behalf of the people of Quintana Roo who have reaffirmed a few weeks ago with forcefulness their confidence in his government, in this project of the Fourth Transformation that is in its second level and that still has much to give to Quintana Roo,” commented Mara Lezama.

Lezama pointed out that AMLO’s legacy will be in every ballast stone, in every station, in every car of the Mayan Train. “In every rail, in every sleeper, in every viaduct, in every ballast stone, in every station, in every car of the Mayan Train, his legacy is reflected, Mr. President, a president who looked at the Mexican southeast, a president who looked at our people, a president who looked at our indigenous people, at those communities forgotten for years and years,” said the governor.

He assured that the Maya Train during the first quarter of 2024 made the state position itself as the one with the highest economic growth in the country, reaching 20.6%. “But if I told you which tourist destination, of the 12 that Quintana Roo has, many would tell me Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Bacalar, Tulum, but no, it was Mayakan, the rural area, with more than 20.6 percent,” he said.

As reported by REPORTUR.mxthe Mexican government has invested at least USD 11 billion in Quintana Roo to give back “some of the much it has done for the country,” according to recent words of the president. (AMLO: investment in Quintana Roo is “for how much it has given to the country”).

“We are helping Quintana Roo a lot, we are giving back what it has given to the country. Many investments are being made. I believe that in the government that I lead we can talk about an investment in Quintana Roo close to 200 billion pesos,” AMLO said at the time.
