Luxury tourism hotels are promoting the creation of a Luxury Tourism Hotels Association in Quintana Roo, which aims to group together a portion of the more than 130,000 Hotel rooms that the State has in this segment.
Conrad Bergwerf, general manager of the Kempinski Hotel in Cancun, originally from Holland, would be leading the initiative in coordination with the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), headed by Andrés Martínez Reynoso, according to Dinero.
Therefore, they are about to launch a campaign to position these hotels. However, at the beginning “some only wanted to promote the hotels with a “European plan”, but the CPTQ added the “All-inclusive” hotels,” the text states, and criticises that “no one can take away the merits of hotels such as Kempinski itself, Nizuc, Waldorf Astoria, St. Regis, Etéreo or Rosewood, but it would be absurd to deny that La Casa de la Playa, Impression or Grand Velas play in the same league,” he comments in his column.
With more than 20 years of experience in the Hotel industry, Bergwerf is originally from Holland and began his professional career in the Hotel industry in Gran Canaria, Spain, in 1992. He joined the Meliá Hotel chain in 1997 in a project in Costa Rica, and then continued his work as a director in properties of the Hotel chain in places such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Costa Rica, Los Cabos, Cancun and the Dominican Republic. In 2017 he was appointed general manager of the Paradisus Playa del Carmen La Perla & La Esmeralda.
Conrad Bergwerf was president of the Riviera Maya Hotel Association (AHRM) until 2020, when he was replaced by the Spaniard Toni Chaves (The representative of the Riviera Maya hoteliers resigns).
As reported by REPORTUR.mxCancun hoteliers have asked the CPTQ for another strategy to promote destinations in the northern part of the state, given the great disappointment they experienced with occupancy below 70% during the summer, which represented drops of up to 15 points. (Cancun: hoteliers ask the CPTQ for another strategy after disappointments).
“We had summers with 90% occupancy, and now we must work on more promotion to attract more visitors, so that the other seasons are positive and this leads to having more tourism,” said Jesús Almaguer Salazar, president of the Hotel Association of Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres.
