According to a report by the Central BankPuerto Plata received a total of 280,290 tourists by air during the period from January to July 2024, marking a notable recovery when compared to the lows reached in 2021, which were 87,559 tourists by air.
The main issuing markets for the North coast of the country continue to be Canada and USAwhich explains very well why the hotels that Punta Bergantín will host are aimed in a very special way at attracting North American vacationers, with Hotel brands of great prestige in those countries, such as is the case of Hyatta chain that will manage the first hotels.
In the case of cruises, the boom that Puerto Plata is experiencing shines every day at its maximum intensity, this destination being the undisputed leader of the country in the arrival of cruise passengers, all this thanks to its two jewels: the ports Amber Covefrom Carnival and Taíno Bay.
According to the aforementioned BC report, in the first seven months of this year, Puerto Plata experienced a year-on-year growth in the arrival of cruise passengers of 21.9%, equivalent to 1,402,386, consolidating its position as the leading province nationwide in the reception of cruise ships.
