He Ballet Folk The Dominican National Festival (BFND) of the General Directorate of Fine Arts has been honored with an invitation to participate in the prestigious “Dance and Music of the World” Festival, which will be held in France from August 8 to 12 this year.
The BFND, directed by maestro Maritza Reyes, has the support of the General Directorate of Fine Arts, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism, to participate in this great event that will bring together cultural expressions from around the world. The artistic group will perform in various cities, including Sainte-Fortunade, Terres de Haute Charente and Confolens.
This invitation from the festival organizers is an international recognition of the work of the Ballet Folk Dominican National Ballet, which has been a cultural ambassador of the country in numerous stages around the world. With its participation in this event, the ballet not only seeks to show the richness of the Dominican folklorebut also to strengthen cultural ties between the Dominican Republic and France, and proudly represent the national identity at one of the most important music and dance festivals in the world.

He Ballet Folk Nacional Dominicano was created in 1981, with the mission of projecting national art and culture through indigenous dances.
It is a group destined to preserve, transmit and promote the artistic and cultural samples of the different communities of the country. Among its responsibilities are developing a repertoire made up of choreographic pictures based on myths, customs, stories, legends and Dominican landscapes, and providing spaces for their dissemination. Also, researching dance traditions throughout the national territory for the recording and conservation of music, songs, dances and children’s games.

He Ballet Folk National Dominican was formed with most of the dancers of the old Ballet Folk Dominican, created by Fradique Lizardo in 1975, and with members of the folklore groups directed by Nereida RodrÃguez, Altagracia Peña and Moisés Vargas. Its current director is Professor Maritza Reyes.
This company puts on a gala show every year and performs at official events, neighborhoods, clubs and towns throughout the country. It has participated in important international folk festivals and toured the United States, Latin America and Europe. Since 1994, it has developed an educational folklore program for schools, where it teaches, through dance, music and song, the evolution and traditions of Dominican society.
