Culture has a new home. He Cultural Center Taíno Casa del Cordón has just opened its doors in this historic property, which we invite you to discover this weekend.
Considered the first two-story stone house in the New World, this architectural jewel, a legacy of the People’s Bank to Dominican society for its 60th anniversary, houses a valuable archaeological collection thanks to its alliance with the García Arévalo Foundation.
“Our first settlers“is the first existing collection in the First City of America on society and the taino art and of the settlers archaic of Hispaniola.
This permanent exhibition includes nearly 350 archaeological pieces prehispanicsome of them unique, carefully selected, which represent a valuable journey through the life and customs of the first inhabitants of the island.
But, in addition, the offer of Cultural Center Taíno Casa del Cordón includes a temporary exhibition dedicated to the teachers of the visual arts Dominican, with 24 works chosen from the pictorial and sculptural collections of the People’s Bank.

The theater comes to the neighborhood
Seven artistic groups are touring the country these days within the framework of the XIII Theater Festival Parallel, protected by the Anacaona Theater Foundation.
Today, Friday the 29th, at 10:00 am, it moves to Saint Christopher with the work “Café opera… clown code”, by the La 37 x Las Tablas Associationin the dining room of the Liceo Altagracia Lucas de García.
At 7:00 pm the community center Batey Palamaraby Pedro Brand, will witness the work “Cuatro”, by Tripod Theater Foundation.
And at 8:00 pm on Friday, “The stories of Rita and Lolita“, by Theater Tabletswill be presented at the Amparo Association Club, in the 30 de Mayo sector.
Tomorrow, Saturday the 30th, at 7:00 pm, the festival will take “Gift” to the Atala Urbanization Parkin El Portal, with Anthony Casado and Valentín Amaro.
And the grand closing of this festival, which reaches out to vulnerable communities, will be on Sunday, at 7:00 pm, with “The odyssey“, by Lorena Oliva Alternative Theaterat the Orlando Martínez Club, in the Matahambre sector. Date: Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tickets: RD$200.
He visual language of Gianfranco Fini
The architect and painter Gianfranco Fini opened his wonderful world of “Probable alphabets“, an exquisite piece composed of a series of 38 works that explore the first attempts at human communication through strokes and symbols.
Inspired by the innocence of children’s doodles, and by a clear Paying tribute to the origins of communication, the artist himself assures that “searching for signs and a possible language is like placing myself in front of the canvas with the innocence of a child, but also with the baggage of my sensitivity and my knowledge.”
His works evoke primitive marks and symbols, inviting the public to reflect about the origins of language and the human need to express oneself.
- Described as “airy images, light and luminous”, Fini’s works take you on a lyrical journey through his bold and expansive use of material, thanks to the delicate nuances of each brushstroke and the expressiveness of each detail.
This exhibition, which will remain open to the public until December 10 at the Altos de Chavón Art Gallerymark the reopening of the gallery, which has been completely renovated to offer a more comfortable and welcoming environment.
