The rate of fertility in teenagers has been reducing in the nation and is located in 77 per 100,000 women ages 15 to 19which has earned the country the assessment by the Pan American Organization of the Health (OPS), however, actions and support for the adolescent population are strengthened to continue lowering the indicators.
In that sense, the Ministry of Health via 38 units of attention comprehensive, the Familia Fuerte program and the placement of more than 194,000 vaccines for the prevention of human papilloma, seeks to prevent pregnancy at that stage and contribute to the development and well-being of young women.
When pronouncing the central words of the workshop virtual-in-person “Health Comprehensive with Life Course Approach Teenagers“, the director of the Life Course of the Ministry of HealthElsa Camilo, said that for him Ministry of Health the well-being of the teenagers It’s a priority.
Through a press release, Camilo detailed that, in the 38 units of attention to the teenagersIn addition to medicines and healing, there are psychologists, a dental service and the implementation of the Strong Family strategy, along with the OPS.
- “There is also work on the nutrition of children and teenagers in schools to reduce the consumption of sugars and carbohydrates, with the aim of reducing chronic diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension, as well as obesity and vaccination programs, and more than 194,000 human papilloma vaccines have already been administered to prevent cervical cancer, as well as attention to mental health” he highlighted.
Meanwhile, the doctor Bernandino Vitoy, advisor to the OPS in the country, he reiterated the support of that agency to countries in the reduction and control of teenage pregnancy, including the Dominican Republic, as they have done together with the first lady, Raquel Arbaje.
He congratulated the Dominican Republic for the progress made in reducing pregnancies in teenagers in recent years, due to the application of Law 1-21 that prohibits child marriage and Ministry of Health for the celebration of this workshop.

The doctor Monica Carrión, coordinator of the Program Health Integral of Teenagers of the Ministry of Healthhighlighted the teamwork of the Provincial Directorates and Areas of Health for the efforts they make to improve and present favorable changes in adolescent pregnancy indicators.
While the doctor Alexandra Corao, from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), indicated that Latin America has the second rate of fertility in teenagers of the world. “In Latin America, four boys or girls are born every minute to mothers teenagers“he commented.
