He president of the RepublicLuis Abinader, together with the Minister of Culture, Milagros Germán, awarded this Thursday with the Order of Merit of Duarte, Sánchez y Mella in the rank of Knight to the poet and essayist dominican Rhina Espaillat.
The narrator, also a native of La Vega, was recognized by Decree 642-24 for her outstanding path as author and translator, which has consolidated her as one of the most prominent writers of Republic Dominican in the international arena.
During the event, held at the National theater within the framework of the International Book FairGermán highlighted the professional and human qualities of Espaillat that make her worthy of such distinctionemphasizing that she is a woman who has enlightened everyone with her knowledge and her exemplary modesty.
“She, always faithful to her country and her people, proud of her joy, and we, of her poetry and the exemplary life of this great womenwhich is water from two rivers“said the minister.
After receiving the medal from the hands of presidentEspaillat expressed excitedly: “I have the feeling of being dreaming. I lack the words to thank everyone who has spoken about me, about my life, at this important moment that the only thing I need is for my father to appear. “I have had several honors, but not like this.”
