The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicted for this year an “extraordinary” hurricane season above normal in the Atlantic basin with up to 13 hurricanes, of which 7 were of great intensity, with winds exceeding 111 miles per hour.
NOAA’s outlook for the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30, calls for an 85% chance of an above-normal season.
“NOAA forecasts a range of 17 to 25 total storms (with winds of 39 mph or greater). Of those, 8 to 13 are forecast to become hurricanes (with winds of 74 mph or greater), including 4 to 7 major hurricanes (Category 3, 4, or 5; with winds of 111 mph or greater),” highlights the forecast.
The National Hurricane Center (CNH) in the United States also announced that it will expand its information offering in Spanish to include all public advisories, the debate on tropical cyclones, the update on tropical cyclones and key messages in the Atlantic basin.
