The Minister of Tourism, David Colladoannounced last Wednesday that the president Luis Abinader will build the first Santo Domingo Convention Centeron the land where the old Hispaniola Hotel.
Speaking during the inauguration of the new Latitud 18 project and the Santo Domingo Marriot Piantiti and Aloft Santo Domingo Piantini hotels, which was attended by President Abinader, Collado added that the lands were declared of public utility and confirmed that they are already in negotiations to that the construction is carried out with the advice of Ifema, responsible for the Fitur fair.
Through the Decree 296-22the Government declared “of public utility and social interest the acquisition, by the Dominican State, of the portions of land where the Hispaniola Hotel is located to be used in the construction of the Santo Domingo Convention Center.”
The executive order established that the 30 lots be purchased with funds from the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) and urgently declared that ““the Dominican State comes into possession of the indicated properties, so that the construction of the Santo Domingo Convention Center can begin immediately.”
The Minister of Tourism also reported that, in the coming months, President Abinader will break ground on the construction of a boulevard that will significantly transform the city, extending from Winston Churchill Avenue to Abraham Lincoln Avenue and with an investment of RD$500 million. .
He added that the start of the work is scheduled between 20 and 30 days, marking a clear signal of the vision of urban and tourism development for Santo Domingo. “Our country is at the moment of developing tourism and receiving investments.”
