ANDhe Minister of Education, Ángel Hernández, announced the application of a salary increase 8% for all teachers starting this May.
“There will be an increase to all teachers in all their categories to their base salary,” explained the minister.
The increase is equivalent to RD$5,174 million pesosn the remainder of the budget year.
“It is necessary to remember that less than two years ago a 10% salary increase was applied, so this government administration has made an 18% increase in teachers’ salaries,” Hernández explained.
Hernández said that the proposal proposed by the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP), of 20%, was unsustainable with the institution’s budget.
Last Wednesday the ADP mobilized throughout the national territory demanding salary adjustments for teachers.
