This weekend, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), along with President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum, traveled aboard the Interoceanic Train to supervise the work. Within the framework of this visit Raymundo Morales Ángeles, director of the Interoceanic Corridor, pointed out that the Interoceanic Train will have a connection with the Mayan Train, in Palenque, Chiapas.

Morales Ángeles indicated that they hope to inaugurate the connection at the end of 2024. This connection in Palenque will allow passengers to have more mobility options in the Mexican southeast, according to El Financiero.

The Interoceanic Train of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec will pass through Oaxaca, Veracruz, Tabasco and Chiapas. They intend for this work to come into operation at the end of AMLO’s government, that is, in October.

Currently, the route that already operates is the cargo route, from Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, to Coatzacoalcos. It is planned to open progressively and for the Interoceanic Train to communicate international cargo and passengers.

As reported REPORTUR.mxIn May, AMLO proposed arriving with the Mayan Train to Guatemala and Belize. (AMLO proposes reaching Guatemala and Belize with the Mayan Train).

AMLO pointed out at the time that there is “a project that would be extraordinary: being able to bring those who visit Guatemala and the southeast of Mexico closer together by linking the region of Flores (Guatemala) with Campeche (Mexico). There is Tikal (Guatemala) and on the Mexican side Calakmul; They are two beautiful, splendid, classic Mayan cities.”
