The Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity (IMAM), published by the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD), recorded a significant increase from 48.3 in September to 58.31 in October 2024, indicating a growth in the manufacturing activity.

The IMAMcomposed of five fundamental variables (sales, production, employment, inventories and delivery times), reflects higher levels of activity when it exceeds the threshold of 50.0 points. In October, four of these variables presented positive performances:

  • Turnover: 60.91
  • Output: 63.28
  • Employment: 56.56
  • Raw materials inventory: 61.54

However, the variable “supplier delivery time”although it showed a slight increase, it remained below the critical level of 50.0 at 49.75, marking its second consecutive month in negative territory.

A key indicator for decision making

The IMAM It is calculated through surveys carried out with general directors and purchasing managers of the companies associated with the AIRD during the first 20 days of the following month, taking advantage of online platforms to speed up the process.

This index provides an early view of the economic trends before official statistics are published, becoming a key tool for economists, opinion leaders and decision makers.

Additionally, the index includes a moving average based on the last three months, which shows that the manufacturing activity It remains consistently above 50.0 points, consolidating an expansion trend in the sector.

Adapted to local reality

He IMAM is an adjusted version of the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), adapted to the context of the Dominican manufacturing sector. This indicator serves as a reliable and quick snapshot of monthly economic performance, facilitating timely measures to boost the industry.
