The mayor of Isla Mujeres, Atenea Gómez Ricalde, assured that tourist occupancy remained unchanged during this holiday period, compared to last year’s season.

“We closed with good Hotel occupancy, but more than that, a good tourist influx, which are different things for us. You only have to see this weekend the people who returned from Isla Mujeres to Cancun, on the last boats, to see that we are one of the best tourist destinations,” said Gómez Ricalde to Noticaribe.

The mayor also admitted that there was no significant increase due to external factors, such as Hurricane Beryl, which affected all destinations in Quintana Roo before the start of the holiday period. However, she said that the most significant arrival of tourists occurred at the end of the holiday season.

As reported by REPORTUR.mxCancun hoteliers have asked the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), headed by Andrés Martínez Reynoso, for another strategy to promote destinations in the northern part of the state in the face of the great disappointment they experienced with occupancy below 70% during the summer, which represented drops of up to 15 points. “We had summers with 90% occupancy, and now we must work on more promotion to attract more visitors, so that the other seasons are positive and this leads to having more tourism,” said Jesús Almaguer Salazar, president of the Hotel Association of Cancún, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres.
