The National Institute of Physical Education delivered the props to the federation for the “School Golf” project
SANTO DOMINGO.- The National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI) and the Dominican Golf Federation (Fedogolf) announced the “School Golf” program with which initiation clinics will be given to students from schools and colleges in the capital, a project that will later be extended to several regions of the country.
The information was provided by Alberto Rodríguez Mella, executive director of INEFI, and Enrique Valverde, president of Fedogolf, both agreeing that this project will contribute to encouraging this discipline in students.
Rodríguez Mella and Valverde offered their statements during a delivery of props at the Fedogolf headquarters this Thursday morning, highlighting that this type of project is being carried out for the first time, which will reach other levels.
The delivery of props was carried out by INEFI to Fedogolf for the “School Golf” project.
“INEFI and Fedogolf have taken a very important step, which, in our opinion, had never been done and from which we hope many good things will be obtained,” highlighted Rodríguez Mella.
He reiterated that to develop the sport it must start from the bases, and, therefore, Fedogolf has focused on that measure, so that low- and medium-income students can practice a sport that is erroneously classified for the rich.
For his part, Enrique Valverde said that the students will not only learn and have the opportunity to play golf, but also in the future obtain scholarships to study abroad.
He revealed that the agreement signed by that federation with the INEFI has been very significant, since they will be able to impact more than 300 or 400 students every month.
Valverde reported that for the practice of school golf, land has been managed to prepare an adequate area, where children and adolescents can develop their skills as golfers.
Meanwhile, Juan Carlos López Alba, technician in charge of School Golf and head instructor of the project, said that one of the objectives is to prepare the students to compete in the XI National Sports School Games 2025 to be held in San Francisco de Macorís.
“There are many children and adolescents, of both ages, trained and talented to compete in this sport,” he highlighted.
He trusted that for the School Games “we will have a well-prepared group so that golf can be integrated into this great event, taking place at the Las Aromas course, in Santiago, or in Puerto Plata.”
While Luis José Placeres, executive director of Fedogolf, revealed that they are taking steps to prepare mini-golf courses at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center and at Mirador Sur.
Placeres placed emphasis on the “Golf for All” and “School Golf” programs, as well as the execution of collegiate tournaments in the different school districts of the nation.
He also agreed that, with the practice of golf, there will be several students who in the future could obtain scholarships to study abroad.
