The Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santiago described as “inopportune” the project of labor reform presented by the central government.
Fernando Puig, executive director of the entity, believes that, due to the importance of the other reforms in the process of discussion and approval, the Labor Code must wait.
He maintains that this piece deserves special studies for its consideration.
Furthermore, he alleges that there is no consensus on aspects of the labor field, which are key to the promotion of new companies and the creation of new jobs.
“Our proposal is to wait to address the issue of modifying the Labor Code“said the business leader.
Puig indicated that from the Chamber, like other business bodies, they advocate for “fair and balanced labor policies, which promote investment and the protection of workers’ rights, focused on competitiveness, productivity and the reduction of informality”.
Likewise, he explains that the objective of the entity is to build a solid institutional structure that guarantees the sustainability and growth of the economy, for which the necessary time and at the precise moment is required to carry out such a reform. transcendence, as is the Labor Code of the Dominican Republic.
Other reforms
Regarding the proposals for constitutional and fiscal reforms, he said that the Chamber of Commerce is carrying out a survey with experts to establish their position.
