The National Statistics Office (ONE) revealed that, according to the X Census of Population and Housing, in the Dominican Republic there is a total of 3,694,060 private homeswhich are those intended to be inhabited by one person or by a group of people with a bond between them, regardless of the number of members.

Of that amount 2,442,901 are independent housesthat is to say,that they do not share wall, ceiling or floor with another dwelling, and 681,247 are apartments.

The duplex houses They are those buildings made up of two housing that share a wall or roof, of these there are 256,875, according to the survey carried out in the year 2022.

Of the row houses, which are the buildings constructed for three or more housing adjoining that share walls, there are 99,203 units.

Meanwhile, 93,827 are rooms in quarters or in the back. These are the set of housing units generally located in courtyards or alleys, built by independent rooms placed in a contiguous manner which share a common sanitary installation.

Types of housing, according to region

The largest number of housing units are concentrated in the Ozama region with 1,297,631 and Cibao Norte with 579,753.

The Ozama, which includes Santo Domingo and the National District, is the region where There are more apartments with 390,242 units.

Detached houses remain the main type of housing in which Dominicans live. The National District is the only locality in the country where the number of apartments exceeds the number of independent houses with 156,996 units compared to 143,762 separate buildings.
