Two long weekends in the same month until a few months ago was a kind of treasure for the tourism industry in the city but the internal recession and how Argentina became more expensive in dollars for tourists means that the upcoming holidays go almost unnoticed at least in the Argentine capital.
Buenos Aires hotels are already fearing one of the worst winter holidays in recent years after the thermometer that this key week implies with 3 holidays that were expected to be high occupancy.
The sector is hit hard as fixed expense services (ABL, electricity, gas, maintenance, etc.) have skyrocketed without brakes so far this year and are not in line with employment, on the contrary, there is a slowdown constant as the months go by.
The latest numbers released by Indec clearly reflect the situation. In April, 762,800 non-resident visitors entered the country, of which 440,100 were international tourists (visitors who spend at least one night) and 322,800 were excursionists (visitors who only spend the day). The figure represents 23% compared to the same month in 2023. And it rises to 35% if the cut is only with tourists from neighboring countries.
And when it is said that Brazilian tourists are still found in the city of Buenos Aires, the data corroborates it. 60% of those who arrive in the country do so from neighboring countries and 21.5% are Brazilians. Furthermore, many companies in the sector claim that foreign tourists who choose Argentina have greatly reduced their daily spending, after the constant complaint that prices are like in Europe and Argentina, which was cheap for those who came with foreign currency, is being left far behind.
