In line with the goal of creating a new culture of aquatic rescuers for a safer destination, the foundation Happy Dolphins carried out an intensive training of international level, in the town of Cabarete, Puerto Plata.

After a 40-hour program over the space of five days, seven young people graduated as lifeguards. This training consisted of practices at Cabarete Beach, in front of the Hotel Long live Tangerineand in the pool of the Inspire DR. youth foundation.

The training, endorsed by the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) and the American Aquatics and Safety Training in New York, included open water rescue and first aid skills, ensuring a prompt response to save lives in any emergency situation.

Happy Dolphins is equipped with the latest rescue equipment, including feedback monitor mannequins, thanks to a donation from Extra Mile Leadership of Nova Scotia, Canada.

«In the Dominican Republic, 8 out of 10 people do not know how to swim. In a country where tourism is a key pillar of the economy, it is essential that we dedicate attention to the creation of a lifeguard culture, as in the United States, Canada and Australia. Every beach frequented by foreign and local tourists should have a lifeguard. The same with resorts and rivers. Happy Dolphins works hard to achieve this goal,» he commented. Patricia Hiraldofounder.

He said that new lifeguard programs are coming to different tourist centers of the island, hoping to certify 70 lifeguards and swimming coaches with scholarships by the end of this year, thanks to the support of foreign diplomatic missions.
