The Trust for the Strengthening of Tourism Activity in the State of Quintana Roo (Foatqroo) has just begun its operation, but it has encountered obstacles in the execution of its projects by the former entity in charge, Fonatur, as has been the case with the contract for the Walkins Box Shops.

The new Trust is in charge of promoting and socializing the Mayan Train, for which the Walkins Box Shops will be used, which apparently already had a contract in force with Fonatur for the installation of 20 mobile modules in the Hotel zone of Cancun, which would offer anti-fraud tourist information and sell tickets for the Mayan Train. “In addition to being the first urban project that is born with security precepts, with 80 cameras connected to the C5,” reveals Atzayaelh Torres in his column in El Financiero.

The Fonatur Marketing Director, Raúl Zambrano, in an official document dated July 17, 2024, signed the legality of the contract and gave the locations of the kiosks, and “specified that the concession is unrelated to the Trust recently signed with Sefiplan Quintana Roo,” says Torres.

However, he comments that two weeks later, on August 6, he surprised with an official letter, where he notified the cancellation of the same, “arguing that said areas where the 20 Walkins Box Shop modules would be installed, were already alienated, being those that the same fund approved by official letter,” says Torres.

As reported by REPORTUR.mxthe recently created trust for the maintenance of the Hotel zone of Cancun and the Cozumel Marina seeks to guarantee a clear, transparent and responsible management of the funds, previously managed by the National Fund for Tourism Development (Fonatur). This was stated at the time by the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama. (Lezama promises transparency and management with a Cancun trust).
