Florida: American Airlines plane tires burst during takeoff

Passengers on an American Airlines Flight out of Tampa experienced moments of panic when their plane’s tires burst into flames just as the aircraft was taxiing for takeoff, forcing the pilot to abort the takeoff.

A video captured the moment when tires on a Boeing 737-800 caught fire as the plane gained speed on the runway moments before taking off on Wednesday. The incident adds to others that have recently affected aircraft from the American multinational company.

American Airlines Flight 590, which was flying from Tampa to Phoenix, Arizona, was scheduled to depart at 7:30 a.m. local time but was canceled following the incident, Flight tracking services confirmed.

“And suddenly we felt like we had hit a big pothole in the road,” one passenger recounted.
