The Federal Administration of Aviation USA (FAA for its acronym in English), modified this Wednesday its ban on Flights towards Haiti, and will now allow the airplanes of airlines Americans land in the airport of Cap Haitien and another located in the city of Jacmel.
The change comes after last week the FAA would prohibit the Flights especially the Haitian territory after two airplanes commercial vehicles, one from Spirit and another from JetBlue, were hit by gunfire, while armed gangs intensified their attacks in Port-au-Prince and its surroundings.
The FAA left air operations open in the cities of Jacmel and Cap Haitien, where Haiti’s second international airport is located, according to what it told Free Diary the pilot Francisco Díaz, who highlighted that the airport domestic Jacmel has a small clue of 3,748 feet, allowing it to operate small airplaneswhile the airport international of Cap Haitien has a clue median of 8,700 feet, where they can operate airplanes medium-sized like those of Jetblue and Spirit Airlines.
He pointed out that in this two airports cannot land airplanes wide-body such as those operated from Europe.
“This measure, although it reconnects Haiti with the system of air transport of the USAstill maintains it with a certain restriction for air operations of aircraft of greater magnitude,” explained the pilot.
Despite the opening of Flights at these two airports, the FAA also warned that all North American commercial and civil aircraft are prohibited from operating within two specific zones, including the Dominican-Haitian border.
This prohibition does not apply to aircraft operating for the United States government with permission from the FAA, or if the FAA authorizes companies or individuals to operate in said area.
