The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) elects this Sunday the president and secretary who will direct its destinies for the next four years.
For the presidency, they compete Danilo Medinawho currently occupies that position, and Francisco Domínguez Brito, former Attorney General of the Republic.
José Dantés Díaz, Luis de León, who renounced his aspirations, Yván Lorenzo and Johnny Pujols signed up for the general secretary.
Only the approximately 1,300 members of the Central Committee have the right to vote in the voting.
They will also elect the missing members to complete the registration of 51 people who make up the Political Committee (CP).
At least 101 people aspire to reach the CP, the highest PLD leadership body. Most of the current members want to repeat, with the exception of José Ramón Peralta, Gonzalo Castillo and Ramón Ventura Camejo.
In the present restructuring process of the X Ordinary Congress Reinaldo Pared Pérez The number of members of the CP was expanded from 45 to 51. That is, 49 plus the president and general secretary.
It was also decided that the former president of the Republic would retain their positions for life, Danilo Medina; former vice presidents Margarita Cedeño and Jaime David Fernández Mirabal; former general secretaries Charlie Mariotti and Lidio Cadet; the past presidential candidates Abel Martínez and Gonzalo Castillo, and the former president of the PLDThemistocles Montas. Also Euclides Gutiérrez Félix, who was declared ad-vitam member of the CP.
From this group we must subtract Castillo, who took a leave of absence as a member of the CP due to recommendations to attend to the judicial process against him. Castillo is involved in the so-called Operation Squid and is accused of diverting 19,000 million from the State in the purchase of land declared for public use and in the alleged extortion of lottery banks.
The above leaves 42 positions for which the 101 candidates will compete.
The Central Committee
This Central Committee is made up of the active members who were ratified to continue in the organization, 183 new ones who were elected in the elections on Sunday, October 20, 45 members who were appointed on Friday by the Political Committee itself, the deputies, senators, mayors and provincial, municipal and municipal district presidents.
