Copa Airlines has announced from Panama the new route to the Tulum airport, while its low cost launches offensive from Bogotá and Medellín to the Cancún airport.
Wingo will have 9,000 seats for the Mexican market throughout the year on the Bogotá–Cancún–Bogotá and Medellín–Cancún–Medellín routes. The Copa subsidiary reorganized its operation to make these routes part of its regular Flight offer, since they were seasonal routes. The Low Cost will begin operating 3 weekly Flights on both routes in June.
“At Wingo we are aware of the significant movement that occurs in the international passenger market, which is growing at a faster rate than the domestic market as a result of a greater movement of Colombians abroad, as well as the increase in foreign tourists who come to visit our country. At Wingo we join this objective by exceeding the national goal of 6 million visitors, with greater capacity in these countries that send tourists to Colombia,” said Jorge Jiménez, Commercial and Planning Vice President of Wingo.
For its part, Copa with its new route to Tulum will complete six destinations to the Aztec country, which will begin on June 26 from the Hub of the Americas in Panama. “We remain firm with our purpose of shortening distances and facilitating connections for our passengers, allowing Panama to continue being the bridge that unites thousands of people throughout the continent. This strategic expansion not only promotes cultural exchange in the region, but also promotes and deepens tourism and business with Mexico,” said Christian Rodríguez, general manager for Mercosur of Copa Airlines.
Likewise, Wingo plans to enhance its connectivity from other cities in Colombia to Venezuela, specifically to Maracaibo and Valencia, Eduardo Lombana, CEO of Wingo, recently commented to REPORTUR.co. (Wingo plans to open routes from Colombia to Maracaibo and Valencia).
Likewise, he indicated to this newspaper that they are in the permit process with the aeronautical authorities of both countries. “We are aware that there is still a need for direct air connectivity to Venezuela from other cities in Colombia. Together with the aeronautical authorities of both countries, we have made progress in managing the corresponding permits so that Wingo continues to offer its quality service. “Particularly we are interested in serving Maracaibo and Valencia,” Lombana said at the time.
