Marco Antonio Ocando, Marketing Director of Copa Airlines, said that Colombia is growing at 20%, double the rate of growth worldwide, and that is why it is one of the most important markets for the airline. In addition, the company brings one in five foreign tourists to Colombia.
“We bring in one in five foreign tourists who come to the country, that is, 20% of the market. In fact, we have increased our share in an interesting way, from 15% to almost 20% of the proportion of international travelers who visit Colombia,” Ocando told Portafolio.
He added that travelers who come to the country “aim to come to Medellín, which is no secret to anyone, has been growing a lot as a city destination. Our goal is to contribute as much as possible to the growth of tourism in Colombia and to revitalize the entire country,” he told the same media outlet.
Regarding their expansion in the country, he said that they grew with three destinations last year, “and what we are going to do is add some frequencies. We will be waiting for them to mature so they can continue to grow. One of the launches was Santa Marta, which is evolving very well, as well as Cúcuta and Barranquilla,” said Ocando.
He also referred to Bogotá as one of the most important destinations. “It is the second destination with the most connectivity after Panama. It has been 55 years in Colombia and 31 years in Bogotá. This city is one of the most important capitals of the continent and it is the place where we have the most frequencies after Panama,” he commented.
He also said that Bogotá is a “fantastic destination from the outbound point of view, but also a very cool inbound destination, many people come to get to know the country. We have noticed that many people from Panama come to Bogotá and Medellín for the weekend, people have decided to Travel after the pandemic, people no longer postpone that trip, they say let’s Travel, and so that has also helped,” he said.
As reported by REPORTUR.coCopa recently activated 12 auxiliary destinations for passengers affected by the suspension of Flights between Panama and Caracas in Venezuela.
