The temperatures average in Dominican Republic have registered an increase in the last 14 years, being Jimaní with 34.6 °C and Montecristi with 34.3 °C, the two municipalities that in 2023 presented the temperature upper maximum.

The data is contained in the report “Yearbook of statistics environmental, 2024″, presented by the National Statistics Office (ONE), and which shows the evolution that the temperatures maximum, minimum and average in the main stations meteorological of the country from 2010 to 2023.

The study shows that the average of the maximum temperatures recorded an increase in all stations meteorological in 2023 compared to 2022, such as in Saint Dominicwhere the average of its maximum in 2023 was 32.8 °C, that is, 0.9 °C more warm that in 2022.

Saint Dominic and Santiago hottest

According to the study, all provinces show a temperature maximum higher than that recorded in 2010, although it should be noted that this increase has not been completely upward, but rather over the course of that period there were years of ups and downs.

In the case of Saint Dominicwith its 32.8 °C registers in 2023 a temperature maximum 1.4 °C higher than it was 14 years ago (in 2010) when the average It was 31.4 °C.

The same goes for Santiagowhere in 2023 with its 33.1°C it had a temperature maximum 1.2 °C higher than in 2022, the year in which it registered 31.9 °C. Santiago now register a average 1.9 °C more than it did 14 years ago when it was 31.2 °C.

In fact, in the 14 years analyzed, 2023 marks the highest average of temperatures maximums in each of the stations meteorological presented in the study which are: The Americas (Saint Dominic Este), Punta Cana, Arroyo Barril (Samaná), Hato Mayor, Bayaguana, Barahona, Montecristi and Cabrera (María Trinidad Sánchez), with the exception of La Romana and Jimaní.

Individually, the maximum is greater

These data refer to averages of temperatures maximums for an entire year, since when the temperatures per day individually, it is highlighted that, in 2024, for example, on September 16 only in Sabaneta (Santiago Rodríguez) a maximum of 40 °C was recorded and on September 17, 2024 there was 38.5 °C in Montecristi.
