SANTO DOMINGO. – After revealing that the last administration left an alleged debt of 400 million pesos, the mayor of Santo Domingo Norte will begin to reduce cleaning and garbage collection days to pay the debt to a collection company, despite the danger of accumulating waste. at times when the rains begin.
Given the million-dollar debt that the Santo Domingo Norte mayor’s office supposedly received, the route and frequency of garbage collection begins to generate its effects, because some streets in the district are littered with garbage.
Although the community members of some sectors of Santo Domingo Norte understand that the solid waste collection companies are only working at 50 percent of their capacity, with between 22 to 24 collection trucks being necessary, they ask that a way out be found.
“They didn’t pick up the garbage, everyone disappeared and they left SDN orphaned and until now the city council has not started,” said Francisco Encarnación.
Those who live in sectors such as El Torito de Villa Mella and Buena Vista Primera where improvised landfills already occupied sidewalks and containers say they are cautious that their streets will be affected as in other areas.
“They have many that will not enter and if they are from the small trucks, they have many that do not enter and people take it out and go outside to put it in,” said another community member.
In addition, they indicated that some engines that were used to remove garbage from their narrow streets are not passing, so they say they see the need to remove garbage to the main streets.
In a statement, the council assures that of the 20 engines that the mayor’s office has, only eight are working and of the 24 computer trucks that they need to provide an efficient service, only 12 are doing the collection route.
Furthermore, he explains that the deficit has caused delays in the collection of solid waste in the municipality.
