The Director General of the Specialized Corps for Airport Security and Civil Aviation (Cesac), Emmanuel Souffront Tamayoheld a meeting with the security directors of the main airport terminals in the country, with the aim of optimizing the security service in civil aviation at the airports of the Dominican Republic.
During the meeting, held at the main headquarters of CESAC, security protocols, new technologies and procedures to ensure maximum protection in airport facilities were discussed.
The aim was also to identify areas for improvement and update security strategies in response to new demands and challenges in the sector.
The meeting coincides with Souffront Tamayo’s order on the investigation of an incident that occurred last Sunday at Las Américas airport (AILA), in which an officer of the institution and a passenger were involved in an altercation.
The incident took place in the X-ray screening area, when a Cesac agent, whose identity has not been revealed, asked a passenger to remove the trainers from a baby he was carrying in his arms. The request sparked an argument that culminated in the agent violently pushing the passenger, which almost caused the child to fall.
The situation caused panic among those present in the area near the immigration hall, who described the atmosphere as tense because the agent, visibly upset, was carrying his service weapon.
In response to the incident, Souffront Tamayo expressed his rejection and assured that he will not tolerate this type of conduct. As a result, the arrest of the officer involved has been ordered and a commission has been created to investigate the events. The results of the investigation will be publicly communicated, and disciplinary sanctions will be applied if the officer’s guilt is proven.
The affected passenger, along with his family, was heading to New York on a Flight of JetBlue.
The incident has led Cesac to promise to take measures to prevent similar situations from happening again in the future, and Souffront Tamayo reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to the safety and respect of passengers passing through this terminal.
