Carnival Cruise Line has signed a contract with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri to build three new ships for a new class of vessels. Each of the ships will have the capacity to carry around 8,000 guests, a gross weight of 230,000 tons and more than 3,000 cabins.
These vessels will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and delivered in the summer of 2029, 2031 and 2033, respectively. The new vessels will also feature advanced technology in energy efficiency, waste management and emissions reduction to further reduce the company’s environmental footprint.
This brings the total number of new ship orders for Carnival Cruise Line to five in 2024. The new ships will also feature advanced technology in energy efficiency, waste management and emissions reduction to further reduce the company’s environmental footprint.
This year the cruise line has already announced five new ships, with two more Excel-class ships set to join the fleet in 2027 and 2028. Carnival is also acquiring five ships from its brands to the fleet between 2023 and 2025, with the latest two coming from P&O Cruises Australia.
Carnival’s pipeline of newbuilds will see one ship delivered each year from 2025, 2027, 2028, 2029, 2031 and 2033. “We continue to take a disciplined approach to growth, strategically directing new capacity to areas of highest demand at a rate of one to two new ships per year,” Carnival Corp. CEO Josh Weinstein said, as reported by Travel Weekly.
As reported by REPORTUR.usChristine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said in April that the cruise line had once again reached a fleet of 27 larger ships than it had before the pandemic, allowing it to offer greater capacity. (Carnival will have more and larger ships than before the pandemic.)
Duffy said at the time that they now have many more cabins given the larger ships they have acquired since 2019, including the Excel-class ships, the newly christened Carnival Firenze and the Venezia, The Street reported.
