Contrary to complaints from hoteliers in northern Quintana Roo about low occupancy during this season of domestic tourists, Martín de la Cruz, state leader of the CROC union, said that the summer did not have poor results, so he criticized that a capitalist never says that things are going well.
“That is a lie. People keep coming, but so far we have not seen a single capitalist who says that he is doing well,” said Martín de la Cruz, according to Noticaribe.
He also said that there is no conflict with the hotels over the “solidarity breaks” for employees due to an alleged drop in tourist arrivals, and said that together with the hoteliers they have projected that the good occupancy will continue in September and October.
As reported by REPORTUR.mxIn mid-August, it was reported that due to the drop in the number of tourists arriving in Quintana Roo, hoteliers in Cancun decided to force employees to take vacations to avoid layoffs, since August has been the worst month in Hotel occupancy of the summer season with 66.5% and they expect a significant drop for the following months when the low season arrives. (Cancun: hoteliers give employees vacations to avoid layoffs).
Both the Revolutionary Confederation of Workers and Peasants (CROC) and the Confederation of Workers of Mexico (CTM) said at the time that they had adjusted their vacation schedules so that employees can take advantage of the 12 days in their first year of work. “There are many workers with considerable seniority, so they will be the most benefited,” they said.
