In the early hours of this past Friday, three passenger buses were seized for charging too much for urban transport, which is 9.50 pesos in the urban area, and 12 pesos towards the tourist part of Cancun. In this way, Hotel workers avoid the increased cost of the ‘combis’ in which they Travel to their places of work.

Municipal authorities were adamant that there will only be dialogue if it is for the common good, but not for private interests, as the legal framework will be enforced and anyone who does not comply with the provisions will be sanctioned.

The supervision operations in public transport began early in the morning, at random points in the city by the Directorate of Transport and Roads; in addition, the actions were documented by notaries.

Municipal authorities seized four buses from various concessionaires for illegally applying a new rate, so free support was provided with units from the ADO company.

In this regard, also early in the morning and through a statement, the four concessionaire companies (Autocar, Turicun, Maya Caribe and Bonfil) gave up their intentions to increase the fare “in support of the economy of Cancun families.”

The document also adds that “in respect of the request of the Benito Juárez City Council, transportation companies and organizations decided not to apply the adjustment of rates in public passenger service in Cancún.”

The same businessmen who yesterday showed their rebellion after a failed meeting at the municipal palace, said that “this measure is also in strict adherence to the laws and regulations, as well as to maintain social peace in this municipality.”

In this way, the municipality asserted its authority, so the current and approved rate is 9.50 pesos in the urban area, and 12 pesos in the beach area.

On the other hand, at the beginning of August, the Official Gazette of the Federation published the new rates for sporadic access to the federal zone intended for tourist land transportation at the Tulum airport. These rates will apply to companies that provide pre-contracted services, such as Travel agencies and timeshare companies that operate in this prominent tourist destination, as anticipated REPORTUR.mx (Tulum Airport: ground transportation rates reduced).
