Cancun International Airport has not reinforced preventive measures against this new health threat from monkeypox, despite the fact that Quintana Roo is the second entity in the country with the highest number of infections, with eight cases.
At the entry filters to the central area, preventive scans are not yet being applied to travelers, as they have already started in the United States and Asia, they are only maintaining the usual security protocol, Quintanaroohoy reports.
According to the media, airport security personnel confirmed that they have not been informed whether they will introduce the same measures applied by the United States Department of Homeland Security and other air hubs around the world that record a high flow of travelers.
They indicated that, based on comments among the staff, they are aware that in Europe the Security Committee recommended that airport operators prepare to apply preventive scans to Flights arriving from Africa, but in the case of the Cancun airport, they have not yet reported anything.
They stressed that the central area operates with the usual security protocols, except for some sporadic announcements made over loudspeakers about monkeypox, but there are still no sanitary filters, antibacterial gel dispensers or suggestions to wear face masks.
It should be noted that Cancun Airport is the second most important in the country, where an average of 56 airlines operate offering 107 international destinations and 26 international ones, with approximately 500 daily Flights between arrivals and departures.
In addition, according to data from the Ministry of Health (SESA), 8 cases of monkeypox have been detected in Quintana Roo and health authorities maintain a level two risk alert, which is considered low, although health systems in the states are already making recommendations to the population to reinforce preventive actions.
The largest airports in the United States, New York (JFK), Los Angeles and Atlanta, have begun to apply preventive scans to travelers on planes coming from African areas where the emergence of this virus has been detected, as announced by REPORTUR.us (USA: Airports relive Covid nightmare with monkeypox checks).
