The sellers that offer products and services to bathers on the beach of Boca Chica and surrounding areas say they are in danger of eviction. The Beach Workers Union of Boca Chica (SINTRAPLABCH) met on Saturday morning to denounce that the municipal authorities are throwing them out of the area.
These workers, who offer visitors tables and meals at more affordable prices that restaurants are being attacked by the leaders of the PRM which they themselves chose in the last elections, so they say that, in addition to losing their jobs, they feel betrayed.
The meeting of the union
At 10:00 in the morning, they gathered in the beach of Boca Chica dozens of workers for protest. Before starting the meetingeveryone stood up to say a prayer. Then, David Guzmán, one of the leaders of the uniontook the floor:
“The current one mayor, Ramon Candelaria, unfortunately for us workers, wants to do a ‘you get out so I can get in’. We have been in this area for about 33 years,” said Guzmán.
Candelaria, from the PRMreceived the votes of the majority of these workers. However, they claim that once in power he intends to throw them off the beach, ending the way of earning a living for dozens of parents and mothers of family.
“He mayor wants us let’s take out our chairs where we have been for 33 years for him to put his own,” Guzmán said. If this were the case, a leader elected by the people would be taking jobs away from his constituents to fill his pockets.
“He mayor it’s a dictator“
Juan Caminero, another of the representatives of the uniontook the floor, outraged by the situation they are experiencing.
“I want to make a call to the Sir presidentthat he seems not to be aware of this,” he began by saying.
He said that they are abandoned by local authorities. “Mr. Ramon Candelaria is a dictator“He wants to throw us out of here without talking to us, without reaching an agreement,” he said.
After these words, he indicated that there are 34 parents of family that they would lose their jobs. And he asked: “Where are you going to place them?”
“Us We voted to the PRM“
Julio Cesar Herrera is also part of the union and the association of sellers“I feel sorry and ashamed of the moment we are going through in Boca Chica. Because we to that gentleman, through the PRMit We voted“, Herrera said.
The impotence of these workers It is twofold, since their attacker, the person who intends to take their jobs, is from the party they voted for. Furthermore, during the campaign process the reality was very different.
Herrera said that during the election campaign “he didn’t bother us much, he said he wasn’t going to bother us take out of the beacheven that he was our neighbor and that he was going to be an ally.” But it seems that those promises were not real. Now they see themselves on the verge of losing their jobs.
The call to president
Amidst murmurs from the crowd of protesters, outraged by this “betrayal”, one of the humble workers, Jonathanstood up to express his position.
“I call on the president of the Republic, to Mr. Luis Abinader Corona, come to our aid. We are honest men, we are not criminals,” he said, worried.
Then he took a few steps to the side, approaching one of the posters with the list of dishes and drinks that they offer to visitors.
“This is the menu that we have. Affordable to the citizen. We do not have fixed prices,” he said. Jonathan.
This is the list of what they offer. sellers in the beach of Boca Chica. While it is true that the prices are high, since a fish is not worth 750 pesos, their prices are lower than those offered by restaurants. This makes them the ideal resource for those Dominicans who do not have much money and want to enjoy a day of beach.
