An Avianca Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flying between Madrid and Medellín suffered an emergency half an hour into the Flight due to a fault in the cockpit window, so it returned to the airport in Madrid.
The incident took place in the afternoon of Sunday, July 7. The report published on X’s account by the Spanish Air Traffic Controllers indicated that “an initial descent to 12,000 feet and several holds were made to reduce weight. Once ready for approach, we cut them down as much as possible with priority while the airport emergency services were activated. The plane landed and cleared the runway without incident.”
The 232 passengers on the plane were in for a big scare, even though there were no injuries in the emergency. However, one of the passengers told El Colombiano that the supposed breakage of the pilot’s window caused some instability in the Flight, which caused panic among the plane’s occupants. “At one point they were forced to get into the fetal position for safety, which meant about 20 minutes of quite a scare,” according to Semana.
As reported by REPORTUR.coIn June, Avianca suffered an incident on board a Boeing 787-8 while flying between Madrid and Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. (Avianca: a plane returns to its destination due to problems with a passenger).
According to reports at the time, air traffic controllers, through their X account, the plane’s crew, contacted Portuguese air traffic control and “reported that a passenger felt unwell and decided to return to Madrid.”
