The American League defeated the National League on Tuesday in the 2024 All-Star Game, held at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

The American League is back on track after the National League won last year in Seattle for the first time since 2012. The young league has won 17 of the last 21 and 22 of the last 27 all-star games to control the series for life 48-44 (2 ties) since 1933.
Los Angeles Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani gave the Old League the lead with a three-run homer off Boston right-hander Tanner Houck in the third inning.
It was Ohtani’s first homer and the first by a Dodgers player in the midseason classic since 1996, when catcher Mike Piazza homered and finished as the event’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). Ichiro Suzuki (2007) is the only other Japanese player with a homer in the major league all-star game.
But the American League tied the game in the bottom of the inning, marking the first time since the eighth inning of the 1992 classic in San Diego that both teams scored three runs in the same frame.
New York Yankees’ Juan Soto hit a two-run double and scored on pinch-hitter David Fry’s single. Soto is the third Yankees player with multiple RBIs since 2000. The other two (Derek Jeter in 2000 and Giancarlo Stanton in 2022) ended up winning the game’s MVP.
National League starter, Pittsburgh Pirates rookie Paul Skenes, pitched a scoreless one despite walking Soto on a 3-2 count with two outs. But Skenes rallied by getting Aaron Judge to ground out to third base on the first pitch.
The right-hander threw two 100-plus mph pitches, both to Soto, to join Justin Verlander (7 in 2012) and Chris Sale (3 in 2018) as the only starting pitchers with multiple triple-digit pitches since 2008, when records began being kept.
Oakland Athletics closer Mason Miller threw a 103.6 mph fastball to Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner, the fastest in All-Star Game history. Eight of Miller’s 12 pitches topped 100 mph, including three at over 103 mph.
Miller was the game winner, while Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase earned the save. Green was the losing pitcher.
