In Machu Picchu, Peru, authorities and tourists are already concerned about the deaths of three travelers from cardiac arrest in the last month. The most recent case was that of a 72-year-old Mexican man who fell from a three-meter Inca terrace after a heart attack.
The Ministry of Culture, through the Decentralized Directorate of Culture (DDC) Cusco and the Machu Picchu National Archaeological Park, reported on “the sensitive death of the Mexican citizen, Blas Luna Gonzales, aged 72,” the communication indicated, as reported by ABC.
According to local media, the Mexican was taking a photo in the Tres Portadas sector when he collapsed and fell three meters to one of the complex’s terraces.
The cause of death was confirmed to be an acute myocardial infarction and the fall caused a head injury. Another case occurred on July 15 when a 37-year-old Brazilian tourist, Clederson Marqués, died of cardiac arrest while traveling in a PerúRail train on the route from Machu Picchu to Ollantaytambo.
Then Carlos Jorge Rubinstein, a 59-year-old Argentine, died after fainting while visiting the Ollantaytambo Archaeological Park. In this case, witnesses indicated that the emergency services did not arrive in time to provide timely care.
