Aeroméxico continues to experience a decline in domestic passenger numbers, registering a 1.0% drop in the first half of the year with 8 million 477 thousand passengers, compared to 8 million 534 thousand in the same period in 2023. For its part, Volaris continues to be affected by the lack of capacity due to the overhaul of NEO aircraft with Pratt & Whitney GTF engines.
Aeromexico reported that it had passenger traffic of 12 million 388 thousand passengers in the first half of the year, which compared to the 11 million 799 thousand in the same period of 2023, an increase of 5.0%. For Volaris, the first half of the year had a decrease of 15.4% in passenger traffic, going from 16 million 559 in 2023 to 14 million 010 this year, in the same period.
“Our fleet mitigation plan is on track and yielding positive results. As part of this plan, we reduced capacity in the Mexican domestic market and reallocated it to the international market, resulting in a total capacity reduction of approximately 14% in June,” said President and CEO Enrique Beltranena.
In international passengers, Aeroméxico in this same period was 3 million 941 thousand compared to 3 million 265 thousand from January to June 2023, that is, an increase of 20.7%.
