The celebration of National Club Day celebrated its 53rd commemoration, in an event led by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader.
This Wednesday would be the first time that a presidential leader is the main figure of this date, sad in its origin, but which yesterday received a tone of joy, since the late president, Salvador Jorge Blanco, declared on October 5 1984, the celebration of National Club Dayto be remembered on the 9th of that month starting that year.
President Abinader, accompanied by the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz and other personalities led, in the Restoration Hall of the Armed Forces, the commemoration of the date instituted by Jorge Blanco.
Abinader, through his minister, Kelvin Cruzannounced by 2025 the construction of more than 45 sports or multipurpose centers in different parts of the country.
“We have a large part of the resources selected,” Abinader said, “to begin this construction plan next fiscal year, which begins in January.”
This is the president’s first public activity, after announcing the tax reform last Monday. The Minister of Defense, Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre; The director of the National Institute of Physical Education, Alberto RodrÃguez; the president of Centro Caribe Sports, LuisÃn MejÃa, the president of the Association of Sports Writers, Américo Celado and the president of the Dominican Federation of Clubs, Roberto RamÃrez, attended the activity.
“These multipurpose facilities are fundamental for each of the sectors, fundamental for more than one objective,” said Abinader, given that they will not only be for sports, but also for social and community activities. The clubs “help us with another public policy objective, which is that our young people are engaged in healthy sports activities,” said the president.
By 2025 there will be a bidding and construction process for clubs, Cruz announced.
The president highlighted that plan. “That keeps these young people out of other activities that can lead them down the wrong path. And investment is always needed,” Abinader continued. “You – the club leaders – are fundamental for all the social objectives that we have and that is why we are here supporting you and we are going to support you more and we are going to dedicate more resources to work together with you in a better quality of life for your sectors, neighborhoods and municipalities, which is to improve our country and our young people.
Construction of the San Andrés community sports center (Boca Chica), which is ready to be inaugurated; the renovation of the Esmeraldo Soto sports center (Los Prados, DN) by 85%; 75% of the construction of the Ensanche Ozama multipurpose facility (Santo Domingo Oeste) is underway; Las Caobas (Santo Domingo Oeste), by more than 70%; repair of Pedro Brand’s multipurpose vehicle, 60%.
Also the repair of the El Bonito Club (San Isidro); repair of the El Túnel open basketball court (Las Cañitas, DN), by 33%; Community Sports Center in La Guáyiga; Club Los Cachorros (Cristo Rey, DN, 42%); La Unión (Santo Domingo Oeste); There are 17 facilities.
Starting next year, “the bidding and construction process for (several) clubs will begin,” Cruz announced.
On October 9, 1971, the club members and sports leaders, Radhamés Peláez Tejeda, Rubén DarÃo Sandoval, VÃctor Fernández Checo, Reyes Florentino Santana and Gerardo Bautista Gómez, were murdered. The event occurred under the presidency of JoaquÃn Balaguer. Both the current Government and the Ministry of Sports wanted to highlight the date positively. “A special day and one that we, as the new Minister of Sports, have wanted not to be overlooked,” said Cruz.
