Santiago.- The Santiago monorail cars were put into motion during the first dynamic tests.
The government hopes that this elevated transportation system will be the backbone of the transportation system in the urban area of the municipality of Santiago de los Caballeros.
The test speed is 15 kilometers per hour and when it starts working it will increase to 80 kilometers per hour, according to the data offered by the technicians.
Authorities expect that the first line will be scheduled to be inaugurated in December of this year or in the first quarter of 2025.
Trust for the Development of the Mass Transportation System of the Dominican Republic (FITRAM) reports that these dynamic tests represent the ignition of the train in motion and goes at a speed between 5 to 15 kilometers per hour joining from station E1 Cienfuegos towards station E2 San Lorenzo.
“These tests are being managed by the technical management and with international validations. They will be repeated according to the progress of the project, gradually incorporating greater speed,” he points out.
It indicates that they continue the advances of this modern transportation system, the first monorail in the country and with the highest safety standards.
At the end of last week, the two cars that arrived at this stage were installed, and they made the journey from station one near the elevated that connects the ring of the Northern Beltway with Tamboril Avenue to station two in the San Lorenzo community in Cienfuegos of the Santiago Oeste municipal district.
Given the first tests, residents in the Cienfuegos area showed their joy at seeing the train in operation.
The monorail was built at the Alstom factory in Canada and will have the capacity to transport 20,000 people per hour in each direction.
The cars were loaded onto the track switch at station one and they are working on preparations to begin testing until station two.
The viaduct will move on a reinforced concrete rail structure, which will cross the entire city from the west in Cienfuegos to the south in Beijing in a route of 13 kilometers.
The station, which, in addition to being underground, will be a new tourist attraction, because it will not only function as a Monorail station, but also It will have a museum.
As part of the conditioning of the streets affected by the work, a section of Tamboril Avenue in Cienfuegos was paved.
In addition, it will have large staircases in that area to be able to have a new monumental viewpoint as part of the attractive cultural heritage of the city’s heart.
In total it will have 15 stations and a central terminal for integration with the cable car, a system that will allow transporting 20 thousand passengers per hour in each direction, equivalent to 200,000 users per day.
Within all the stations of the Monorail, the one in the monumental area is one of those that generates the most expectations because it is the tourist spot more importantly Santiago.
Station 11 is defined as a station of simple shapes and materials that do not disrupt or compete with the heritage environment.
The museum is expected to provide a historical tour of Santiago de Los Caballeros, informing the general public of its historical importance with cultural and artistic concepts. both in the tunnel and the station, simulating international systems that implement these elements in their most emblematic route areas.
Monorail station 12 will be next to the campus of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) in Santiago.
The mass transportation system plans to install a total of 700 pieces that will make up the entire viaduct.
Stations three and four will be located between Ensanche Espaillat and La Plazona respectively, in the surroundings of the Zona Franca park, Víctor Espaillat Mera, to the west of the main municipality of Santiago de los Caballeros.
