AR enters to compete indirectly with the Dominican Arajet
After four and a half years, Aerolíneas Argentinas will resume its operations between Córdoba (COR), Argentina, and Punta Cana (PUJ), Dominican Republic, one of the most requested vacation destinations by Argentine tourists.
According to the Aerolíneas Argentinas reservation system, flights between Córdoba and Punta Cana will begin on September 13 and will be carried out on Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, which makes the route the eleventh longest of the model, traveling 5,538 kilometres.
From Córdoba, connections will be offered to and from cities such as Neuquén, Comodoro Rivadavia, Mar del Plata, San Juan, Mendoza, Resistencia, Tucumán or Bariloche, thus opening a new option for the Argentine interior, according to aviacionline.com.
Schedule of Córdoba-Punta Cana flights
Córdoba – Punta Cana flight AR 1326 COR 14:00 – 20:50 PUJ / Fridays and Saturdays.
Punta Cana – Córdoba flight AR 1327 PUJ 22:05 – 07:00 COR / Fridays and Saturdays.
The new route will complement the four weekly flights that depart from Buenos Aires/Ezeiza with Airbus A330-200 aircraft, where it provides an offer of 2,176 additional seats per week. Indirectly, it competes with Arajet, which offers a daily flight to Santo Domingo/Las Américas with Boeing 737 MAX 8.
Punta Cana is one of the destinations with the highest occupancy for Aerolíneas Argentinas. According to data from ANAC Argentina, in 2023 the state company transported 78,030 passengers with an occupancy of 92%. The National Statistics Office (ONE) of the Dominican Republic highlights that last year some 199,668 Argentines arrived in the Caribbean country, mainly through connections in Lima, Panama City, São Paulo, Miami or Bogotá.
Argentina is the second country in South America with the highest number of tourists visiting the Dominican Republic and ranks fourth worldwide. The return of Aerolíneas Argentinas to Punta Cana from the second most important city in Argentina, in terms of population, will allow diversifying the flow of passengers and will contribute to strengthening ties between both countries.
