With a concert in the Plaza de España, performed by more than a hundred musicians from the Orchestra Symphony National, directed by maestro José Antonio Molina on Bank Popular Dominican celebrated the opening of the Casa del Cordón Taíno Cultural Center.

This event, which took place within the framework of the entity’s 60th anniversary, featured the voice of the singer, songwriter and folklorist Xiomara Fortunewho put his art at the service of the audiovisual piece that accompanies this new cultural center.

More than 500 customers attended the event. Bank Popular and prominent personalities from the country’s cultural and business spheres.

The executive president of Bank PopularChristopher Paniagua, explained that, together with the Foundation Garcia Arévalo, “we deliver to society a new cultural space, reaffirming our commitment to human growth, to our historical memory, our heritage and to the cultureas a fundamental pillar of our identity”.

Meanwhile, the minister of CultureMrs. Milagros Germán, said that this cultural center “will be a meeting point for knowledge, education and cultural projection, inspiring the community to value and preserve history and culture of the Republic Dominican“.

For his part, Mr. Manuel Garcia Arévalo, historian and president of the Foundation Garcia Arévalo, whose pieces make up the permanent exhibition about the first settlers of the island, explained that this cultural center “will come to invigorate the cultural, educational and tourist offer that the Colonial City offers.”

For this reason, we are pleased and warmly congratulate the Bank Popular for the creation of Casa del Cordón Taíno Cultural Center which, without a doubt, will from now on be a revitalized must-see place, destined to build bridges of knowledge and certainty between the generations of today and tomorrow.

Prior to the concert, some guests had the opportunity to take a guided tour and appreciate the restoration of the Casa del Cordón, a colonial building from 1503, noted by various historians as the first two-story stone house in the New World, as well as the permanent exhibition of some 350 pre-Hispanic archaeological pieces, on loan from the Foundation Garcia Arevalo.

Some of these pieces are unique and were carefully selected to offer an invaluable tour of the life and customs of the island’s first inhabitants.

With this value proposition that enhances identity Dominican in an instructive way and pleasant, the Popular modernizes and diversifies the cultural offer of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thereby benefiting Dominicans and tourists.

Musical program notes

Those attending this cultural evening enjoyed a musical program that included eight symphonic works by renowned composers such as himself. Jose Antonio MolinaJuan Luis Guerra, Mario de Jesús, Papa Molina, Salvador Sturla, Luis Rivera and Toño Abreu.

The music producer and saxophonist Sandy Gabriel stood out along with the Orchestra Symphony National, whose performance culminated with the performance of the 1812 Overture. The work, by the renowned romantic composer Tchaikovsky, concluded with salutes from four artillery pieces and ten riflemen, provided by the Ministry of Defense.

Opening to the public
